What's up, my babies? We've made it to Friday, and that means it's time to slam that laptop shut, put your headphones on, and get into the hottest music releases of the week. This week's drops have something for every mood, including a new single from Meek Mill, 2Chainz, a new project from Tory Lanez, and more. Collectively, this roundup is setting the tone for the summer. Let's get into the New Music Friday tea!
600 Racks - Meek Mill (Single)
Something about having nappy braids puts Meek in his bag. He's hungry for it again, and you can hear it every bar on this song. All of the snippets he's been dropping on socials suggest that this next project is about to shake the table and prove all the "fall off" allegations to be false.
Pops - 2 Chainz & Statk Selektah (Single)
It's always a breath of fresh air to hear hip-hop artists step away from trying to "make a hit" and get vulnerable, sharing their real thoughts and feelings. This song about his father creates space for men to acknowledge and process their emotions openly, and you know what... HELL YEA! One of the first bars 2 Chainz said was, "I know a lot of men out there don't express themselves," and well, facts.
Turtleneck - Tank (Single)
Tank might be just as petty as I am because why is this available for streaming? If you watched the Verzuz between Tyrese and Tank, you already know how this song came to be, but if you didn't.. Check it out and report back to the chat for a laugh.
Stupid - Poiison (Single)
Allow me to put you on to Poiison, a slick-talking, self-assured female rapper from Queens who is in a lane of her own. "Stupid" is the latest single from her project La Madrina, Vol. 2, which is a bilingual project full of freestyles that showcase her versatility. If you've been on the hunt for a fresh female voice.. you've just found it.
Rain On Me - India Shawn (Single)
Go ahead and add "Rain On Me" to your feeling sexy playlist immediately. Her voice rides this beat in a way that's borderline mesmerizing, calling all of the lovers to the front. This is the first glimpse into her upcoming EP titled "Subject To Change," which is set to release on May 1st.
Tuition Remix - Don Toliver & Lil Baby (Single)
This is a collaboration that I didn't have on my bingo card, but when I sat and thought about the way they both have the melodies, it all made sense. "Tuition Remix" Is that sexy strip club anthem that everyone's favorite dancer will be using for their next star moment on the pole.
LOL : Slutty Bass - Tory Lanez (Album)
If I had to describe "LOL : Slutty Bass" in three words, they would be endless summertime vibes. Every song feels like a warm summer day or Saturday night at the skating rink when everything was simple. Very cutesy, very fun. There's a heavy lean into the late 80s and 90s here that makes it very nostalgic with the beat changes and breakdowns. I'm here for it.
DND - TheArtI$t (EP)
What I like about TheArtI$t is the fact that she isn't afraid to go all in on yearning. "DND" is the type of project that you can spin to set the mood for date night or even a late-night drive to clear your mind. Add it to your library and thank me later.
Roofless Records For Drop Tops: Disc 1 - Wiz Khalifa & Curren$y (Album)
Whenever Wiz and Curren$y drop, you already know what type of summer it's about to be. Not to mention, the Disc 1 implies that there will be another Installment to the series to keep the summer soundtrack alive. Taylor Gang, it's your time!
SAME DIFFERENCE - Swae Lee (Album)
It looks like Swae Lee is embracing his solo season with "Same Difference." On the 16-track album, he reunites with some of the artists that he's known for making magic with, like Jhene Aiko, French Montana, and of course, Slim Jxmmi. With all of the timeless classics he's blessed us with, there is bound to be at least one cultural moment to come out of this.
That's all we've got for this week's edition of Nuee Music Friday. Be sure to subscribe to the site to get all of the #positiviTEA sent to your inbox FIRST. See you next week.
